I am pleased to announce that I passed my Social Media Marketing Certification on the 19th April 2017, which is an industry recognised credential from Hootsuite Academy. The training and certification are designed to develop fundamental social marketing skills to grow followers, engagement and drive real business results.
What Is The Social Marketing Certification?
The Social Media Marketing Certification is an industry recognised certification from Hootsuite, one of the leaders in social media software and education. Hootsuite is a tool that we have been using for many years, both for our own social media management and our clients. We originally started out by watching their free webinars and over the years, we have become experienced in many aspects of their software.
Although we have been offering social media marketing for many years now, I thought it would be useful to have something on paper that officially recognises the skills we have developed. So I took it upon myself to work through their course and sit the exam, in order to have something to show to both clients and potential clients alike.
The certification was supported by a free online training course in social marketing, which went through the following modules:
- Introduction to social media marketing
- Optimising your social media profiles
- Social media strategy – from A to Z
- Growing your online community
- Content marketing fundamentals
- Social advertising fundamentals
Although I already understood the majority of the principals in the course, due to my years of experience working in the field, I was pleased to pick up the odd new skill that we will now be able to apply as part of our services.
What Does This Mean For The Future?
As we already carry out most aspects of the course as part of our social media marketing service, there isn’t a lot that will change; the certification will mainly help us demonstrate and be recognised for our expertise. However, I have learned some advanced techniques in developing a social media strategy, as well as some new techniques for paid ads when it comes to things like Facebook advertising, Twitter advertising and LinkedIn advertising. I will now be working with our social marketing team to roll out these new additions to the services we already provide.
Another bonus of becoming certified is being listed in the Hootsuite Directory of certified professionals. I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge and certifications further over the coming months, which I can then apply to the services we provide. We are already training to become a Google Partner, undertaking advanced training in Google Analytics as well as becoming qualified in Yoast SEO.
